The Mixon Foil Drive Assist Mashup

The Mixon Foil Assist Madness

Join us this August for four days of Foil Assist action as The Hydrofoil Store and COR Watersports host The Mixon Foil Assist Madness from 21st – 24th August.

Designed for riders who already own and can confidently foil using a foil assist system, this event is all about making the most of the incredible foiling locations around Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula. Depending on the forecast, we'll choose the best venue each day to maximise water time and find the best conditions available.

Whether you ride a Foil Drive, Waydoo FoilBoost, Manta Foils or another battery-assisted hydrofoil system, you'll be welcome to join us.

Possible Riding Locations

The exact venue will be chosen each day based on wind, swell and tide.

Swansea Bay

Ideal for flat water progression, downwind practice, carving and Foil Assist coaching in a sheltered environment.

About The Mixon Sandbar

The Mixon Sandbar (also known as Mixen Shoal) is one of the most iconic tidal features in the Bristol Channel and arguably one of the finest foil waves in the UK.

Located approximately 800 metres offshore from Bracelet Bay, just seaward of Mumbles Lighthouse, the sandbank is formed by powerful tidal currents flowing around Mumbles Head. Its constantly shifting sand contours create a unique underwater reef-like feature that transforms incoming Atlantic swell into long, perfectly peeling waves.

Unlike a fixed reef, the Mixon continually evolves as sand is moved by tides and winter storms, meaning every season brings subtle changes to the wave. At exceptionally low spring tides, small areas of the sandbank may briefly emerge above the water, although it normally remains just beneath the surface.

For hydrofoilers, the Mixon has earned legendary status. When swell, wind and tide align, it produces long, clean left-hand peeling waves that can offer rides of 800 metres or more. The wave wraps around Mumbles Head before peeling across the shallow sandbank, creating an ideal playground for:

  • Foil Assist Surfing
  • Prone Foiling
  • SUP Foiling
  • Downwind Foiling
  • Long-distance connected wave riding

Because the sandbank sits in an area of strong tidal flow, conditions can change rapidly throughout a session. Reading the tides, swell direction and local weather is key to making the most of this incredible natural feature.

When everything comes together, many experienced riders consider The Mixon to offer some of the longest and most rewarding foil rides found anywhere in the United Kingdom.
