Pump foiling , also known as foil pumping, is a technique used in hydrofoiling where the rider uses a pumping motion to generate speed and lift to propel the hydrofoil wing forward in the water keeping the rider airborne without touching the water. This is typically done by moving the body up and down shifting weight from back to front foot in order to generate momentum keeping the hydrofoil moving forward in the water .
Pump foiling can be a fun and challenging way to ride a hydrofoil, it can allow riders to cover longer distances or ride smaller waves than they would be able to with traditional paddling methods. Pump foiling is also a great way to improve balance, coordination and provides a great lower body workout.
