Code Foils Complete 980 S series / 75cm Mast / 158 AR Tail Wing
980 S FRONT WING:
The Code Foils 980S is the larger all-round wing in the S-Series and is often considered the step up from the 850S when you want more low-end power, easier pumping, and better performance in lighter wind or smaller surf. It retains the same design philosophy as the 850S but with more glide and lift.
How it Rides:
The Code 980S has become one of the standout wings in the Code range because it combines the easy lift of a larger wing with the speed and glide of a much smaller one.
On Takeoff
The first thing you'll notice is how easily it gets onto foil. Compared with the 850S:
- Earlier lift and lower takeoff speed.
- Less pumping effort to get flying.
- Better performance in marginal wind or weak waves.
- More forgiving timing during takeoffs.
In Flight
Once flying, the 980S doesn't feel "big" in the way many ~1000 cm² wings do.
- Excellent glide between bumps or waves.
- Strong pump efficiency.
- Smooth, settled pitch stability.
- Maintains speed through lulls surprisingly well.
Many riders describe it as feeling smaller than its area suggests because of its high aspect ratio and efficient section design.
Turning
This is where it differs from the 850S:
- Carves smoothly rather than snapping tightly.
- Larger turning radius.
- More drawn-out surf lines.
- Prefers flowing turns over aggressive hacks.
If you're a wave-focused rider chasing steep pockets and quick direction changes, the 850S feels more lively. The 980S rewards a smoother style.
Speed
For a wing this size, it's quick.
- Comfortable cruising speed.
- Doesn't hit a wall at moderate speeds.
- Carries momentum extremely well.
The trade-off is that it won't feel as loose or exciting at the top end as the 850S or 720S.
Pumping & Glide
This is arguably its biggest strength.
The 980S:
- Pumps with very little energy.
- Links waves easily.
- Makes long glides feel effortless.
- Helps recover from mistakes and touchdowns.
For prone and downwind riders, this is one of the reasons it's so popular.
Typical Rider Impressions
Compared with the 850S
- More lift.
- More glide.
- Easier pumping.
- Better in light wind.
- Less agile.
Compared with traditional 1000 cm² foils
- Faster.
- More efficient.
- Less draggy.
- More performance-oriented.
Best Uses
The 980S shines for:
- Wing foiling in lighter winds.
- Heavier riders.
- Small-to-medium surf.
- Downwind foiling.
- Riders wanting maximum glide and efficiency.
TAIL WING 158 AR:
The Code Foils 158AR Tail Wing is arguably the "middle-of-the-range sweet spot" in the AR stabilizer lineup. It adds a noticeable amount of stability and glide compared with the 142AR and 150AR, without becoming as locked-in as the larger 175AR or 188AR tails
FUSELAGE MEDIUM: Standard fuse length, the code riders go to for down wind.
In addition to the medium, Code Foils have the ‘small’ and the ‘large’ fuse. These are 30mm shorter and longer than the medium respectively.
The small offers a higher cadence pump and even further manoeuvrability to the range, whereas the large fuselage offers greater pitch stability and is great for learning. A lot of downwind foilers love the large fuse as it offers further stability with a slower cadence pump. They offer the same unique joining system and tail mounting surface as our medium fuse.
75cm Mast: Ideal for shallow water, prone surf, downwind, and learning environments. A forgiving and versatile option with excellent control.
